Kimono 01Diurne is the creation of Paris-based artists Marcel Zelmanovitch and Yolande de la Villeguerin. In the mid-1980s, they began producing high quality hand-knotted Tibetan carpets in Nepal that were inspired by their artistic visions.
Marcel Zelmanovitch conceives roughly one collection per year comprised of between eight and ten designs. Each collection is based on a theme found in the world around him. He is inspired by the natural world, ancient Japanese prints and even stained glass windows in European cathedrals. Regardless of the theme, his carpets are characterized by a wonderful harmony of colour and balance of design.
Diurne specializes in complete custom carpet production, making the line an ideal solution for special interior design and architectural applications. Diurne is one of a very few carpet manufacturers which produce Tibetan carpets in a 200,000 knot quality. This fineness, in combination with the subtle and detailed designs, impart a very elegant aspect to those pieces.
Each carpet is uniquely tailored to the client's environment, in size, in shape, in quality and in colour. Marcel Zelmanovitch's designs are used as the inspiration for a room, and the design is then adapted to the required size and colour requirements.
