Three New Laura Kirar Colourways

New Laura Kirar Colourways: l. to r.: Abstract Winter, Blipmarks Flannel, Chant BarkNew Laura Kirar Colourways: l. to r.: Abstract Winter, Blipmarks Flannel, Chant Bark

Slightly earlier than expected, we have received three new colourways from the Laura Kirar collection.

First is a sample of the "Winter" colourway of Abstract, which is more muted and very well-suited to our West Coast environment than the earlier "Fall" colourway of this design.

Next, we received a Blipmarks Flannel in 6 x 9. The main field colour is a warm grey, the vertical lines are charcoal and the horizontal lines a deep cobalt blue.

The last piece is sample of the "Bark" colourway of Chant. The main field is a rich chocolate colour and the design a medium brown.

As with all of the other Laura Kirar pieces, the rugs are a mix of hemp and wool, for some interesting textures.

New Arrivals from Lapchi

We have just received a number of pieces from Lapchi, including the three carpets shown above, in an 8' x 10' size.

The Arrowroot design is inspired by a 14th Century Chinese painting. The Beaded Curtain is part of Lapchi's mid-century collection, and the Eos is an interesting textured carpet inspired by oxidized metals.

Lapchi's Sutra

Sutra, in colourway GingerSutra, in colourway Ginger

In this posting, we highlight the design Sutra from Lapchi's most recent collection:

The energy and asymmetric movement of the brushwork slashing across the
surface of Sutra, dramatically divides the carpet plane, making it a dynamic choice
for contemporary or commercial interiors. Sutra with its “fine art” quality is also
fantastic in gallery settings.

At first glance the feeling is contemporary, yet the calligraphic tradition is ancient.
Sutra reflects this inherent duality and thus works well in traditional environments.
In more eclectic and exotic interiors with “bohemian” influences, Sutra takes on
a more transitional feeling.

The Lapchi Sutra is but a fragment of a Chinese character for “flower.” It encourages
us to contemplate both the passage of time, and the elusive mystery of what the
original whole might once have been. Our Sutra “flower,” is from a poem by Bo Juyi,
a Tang Dynasty poet, famous for brief beautiful verses in simple language.

A Bloom is Not a Bloom

Flower. Is it a flower?
Mist. Is it mist?

Arriving at midnight,
Leaving before dawn.

She is there: sweetness
of an ephemeral spring.

She has gone:
morning cloud, not a trace.

The New Moderns by Laura Kirar

New Moderns by Laura KirarNew Moderns by Laura Kirar

Laura Kirar is the latest designer to create a collection of rugs for Tufenkian Artisan Carpets. Kirar's collection is influenced by her inspirations from music, sculpture and painting.

Texture plays a big part of this set of carpets - most are a combination of wool and hemp, and mix pile-heights to create a layered effect.

More information can be found on our Laura Kirar Page. We have samples of all of the rugs in the collection, so please drop by our showroom for a viewing.
